I am kicking off 2015 with my first ever blog post. I have wanted to start a blog for some time but found the prospect rather daunting; but hey it’s a new year and a new courageous me, time to bite the bullet and do things that are out of my comfort zones.
The end of a year provides the opportunity to reflect on the 12 months that have past - the highs, the lows, our successes and things that didn't go as we had planned. In doing so it allows us to forge new aspirations and set new goals for the forthcoming year.
Last year was a combination of highs and lows – a bad show at the beginning of the year knocked my confidence and it took some time to build it back. During this 'down' time I doubted what and where I was going with my practice and questioned ‘is it really worth it?’ It was then that somebody reminded me that 'Business success is all about not giving up.' So, I have waved goodbye to 2014 and am more focused than ever for 2015 – bring it on! This year I am launching new collections, showcasing a collaborative project, and aiming towards that big public art commission - all really exciting things!
I’m not normally one for New Year’s resolutions but one thing I plan to do this year is celebrate my successes no matter how BIG or small. I am massively guilty of dwelling on the negatives rather than celebrating the successes, but that is all set to change! I have brought myself a nice little scrapbook and plan to put all the things which have been successful this year; photographs, newspaper/magazine clippings, lovely comments people have made about my work, personal achievements. At the end of 2015 I can look back over it and be proud of all I have achieved.
Lastly, I would like to thank everybody who has supported my creative practice over the last year, whether it is a ‘like’ or a retweet; a comment or conversation; purchasing a piece of my work or offering a word of encouragement. It is all greatly appreciated and has helped me grow as an artist.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy new year, may it be filled with sunshine, laughter and blessings. I hope 2015 is a fantastic year for you and that you exceed all your expectations.
